Three people killed and 12 wounded in shooting at Alabama May Day party
According to Andre Reid from the Baldwin county sheriff’s office, the incident occurred during a May Day party near Stockton, where around 1,000 people were in attendance. An altercation broke out, leading to the tragic outbreak of gunfire. Reid mentioned that most of the victims were younger individuals.
As of now, there is no immediate information regarding any arrests made in connection with the shooting. The sheriff’s office has been contacted for further updates. Stockton, with its population of about 400 people, is located approximately 30 miles northeast of Mobile, Alabama. It’s disheartening to note that this incident adds to the more than 150 mass shootings reported in the US so far this year, as documented by the Gun Violence Archive.
A mass shooting is defined by the archive as an incident where four or more individuals are either killed or injured. The persistently high number of mass shootings in the US has sparked calls for meaningful gun control, although comprehensive action from Congress has been limited.
Unfortunately, this mass shooting in Alabama was not the only instance of high-profile gun violence in the US over the weekend. In Atlanta, three police officers were hospitalized with gunshot wounds after a confrontation that resulted in a suspect’s death. Additionally, in Euclid, Ohio, a police officer was tragically shot and killed while responding to a disturbance call. Authorities are currently searching for the suspect.
It’s truly disheartening to see such incidents of gun violence occurring. Our thoughts go out to all the victims and their families during this difficult time.
