Charges of Attempted Murder Filed Following Preteen Girl’s Death: Who is Rendell Hoagland?

The abuse, neglect, and eventual death of the man’s 12-year-old daughter have led to the charging of a Chester County couple with attempted murder and other connected offenses.

Cindy Warren, 45, and Rendell Hoagland, 52, both of Coatesville, were charged on Tuesday with attempted murder, abductions, aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and other offenses with the death of Malinda Hoagland, according to Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe.

Charges of Attempted Murder Filed Following Preteen Girl’s Death: 

Prosecutors said that a 12-year-old child of a Pennsylvania man and his girlfriend are accused of causing her death, despite the kid weighing just 50 pounds and suffering several fractures and other injuries.

Malinda Hoagland, a preteen, was reportedly tortured, starved, and abused by Rendell Hoagland, 52, and his companion Cindy Warren, 45, who was taken into custody last week.

In addition, they are charged with holding her against a piece of furniture for a few months in the family’s West Caln Township, Pennsylvania, home, which is around 45 miles west of Philadelphia.

What Happened to Malinda Hoagland?

Around 7:30 p.m. on May 4, the girl’s father discovered her lifeless; she was taken to the hospital and died less than three hours later.

According to the Chester County District Attorney’s office, she was malnourished and weighed just fifty pounds when she was admitted to Paoli Hospital. According to CDC data, 68 to 136 pounds is typical for a 12-year-old girl.

Malinda was covered with bruises and had at least six fractured bones. According to the district attorney’s office, her organs were also deteriorating.

“Malinda experienced wickedness and suffering that no kid should ever go through. Chester County District Attorney Christopher L. de Barrena-Sarobe stated, “I am thankful to every first responder and law enforcement officer who has worked tirelessly on this case.”

“Together, we’ll bring Malinda justice.”

The district attorney claimed that Warren’s 9-year-old son, another youngster residing in the house, seemed to be receiving good care.

Prosecutors alleged that Malinda was taken out of school in late November and sent to complete her coursework at home over the internet.

Prosecutors said that the girl’s ankle was chained to furniture and that she was both her father and girlfriend verbally berated her videos found on the phones of both defendants that were found by the authorities.

According to the district attorney’s office, they also reportedly made her run in place and perform squats while she was still restrained.

Prosecutors said that she was refused food because of anything she did that the couple didn’t like.

During a news conference aired by local ABC 6, de Barrena-Sarobe stated that she had “minimal access to the outside world” following her removal from school.

An affidavit acquired by the local station claims that her father told the doctors that she had struck a tree while riding her bike when they arrived. The district attorney, however, doubted that assertion.

Malinda’s death was described as a “horrific case of child abuse” by West Caln Police Chief Curt Martinez.

After being taken into custody on May 6, Rendell Hoagland and Cindy Warren were accused of attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, abduction, and other associated offenses.
