Line of Duty star Brian McCardie’s cause of death is revealed by his family

Sad news has been revealed about Line of Duty actor Brian McCardie. His family shared that he tragically passed away after suffering a tear to a major heart artery. Brian, who was best known for his role as Tommy Hunter in the BBC police drama, died suddenly at his home in April at the age of 59.

In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), Brian’s sister Sarah shared that he had an aortic dissection, a rare condition where the wall of the aorta tears. She expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and announced details of Brian’s funeral.

The funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 23rd, at St Mary’s Church in Lanark, followed by a celebration of Brian’s life at Holytown Crematorium in Motherwell. For those unable to attend in person, there will be links available to watch the services online.

Aortic dissection is a serious condition where the weakened wall of the aorta tears, leading to blood leakage between the layers of the artery walls. Symptoms can include sudden and severe chest pain, pain in the jaw and face, and shortness of breath. Brian’s acting career spanned 35 years, and he appeared in notable works such as the BBC prison drama ‘Time’ alongside Sean Bean and the film ‘Rob Roy’.
