Zelenskyy Warns Of Russian Troop Movements: Know More Here
The death toll from an aerial bomb strike on a sizable building supply store in the city of Kharkiv grew to 14 on Sunday, prompting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to issue a warning that Russia is getting ready to step up its onslaught along Ukraine’s northern border.
Along with 43 injuries and 16 reported missing, Kharkiv governor Oleh Syniehubov made these announcements shortly after the incident on Saturday afternoon.
Russia is preparing aggressive activities, according to Zelenskyy, 90 kilometers (55 miles) northwest of the second-largest city in Ukraine, he claimed in a video statement from Kharkiv. Russians “gather another group of troops near our border,” the speaker claimed.
He did not say where the troops are being gathered, but the Sumy region has deeply alarmed Ukrainian officials. About 25 kilometres (15 miles) separate the roughly 250,000-person Sumy and the city of Kharkiv from the Russian border.
Analysts speculate that Moscow’s troops may be attempting to reach within artillery range of the city after seizing villages in the Kharkiv region in recent weeks as part of a larger offensive. Since the beginning of the attack on May 10, more than 11,000 people have been evacuated from the area by Ukrainian officials.
A statement from Ukraine’s General Staff stated that “the intensity of the hostilities is quite high” in the Chasiv Yar direction of the Donetsk region, where Russian forces are conducting offensive strikes across the 1,000-kilometer (620-mile) front line. According to the statement, “the defense forces are taking measures to prevent the enemy’s advance.”
During the night, Russia attacked a large portion of Ukraine with drones and wide-ranging missiles. According to Ukrainian officials, Russian-launched cruise missiles and 31 Shahed drones were intercepted by air defense units in the areas of Mykolaiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Kirovohrad, Vinnytsia, and Chernihiv.
Russia fired about thirty drones and fourteen missiles in all, the Ukrainian air force said in a statement. What harm might have been inflicted by drones and missiles that were not shot down was unclear.
According to the governor of Russia’s Belgorod area, which is located across the Ukrainian border, four persons were hurt during the course of the night by strikes from Ukraine. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, three drones were shot down over Oryol and seven were shot down over the Kursk region, all of which are located north of Belgorod.
