WIS COLUMBIA, S.C. – Thursday’s tragedy claimed the life of Richland County School District One’s elementary school principal.
Jason Koepke, 41, of Union, perished in a collision on Heyward Brockington Road and Monticello Road in Richland County, according to the Richland County Coroner’s Office.
According to a witness at the site, the car veered and struck a tree, according to a Richland County Sheriff’s Department incident report.
According to the incident report, EMS first responders declared the driver dead when deputies arrived because they could not discover a pulse.
District representatives stated on Friday For the previous three years, Koepke oversaw Forest Heights Elementary School as its principal. Prior to that, he was St. Andrews Middle School’s assistant principal.
In a statement, district officials stated, “We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Koepke’s family, and we ask everyone to keep his family and the students and staff at Forest Heights in your thoughts and prayers.”
The Spartanburg First Baptist Church, located at 250 East Main Street, will host Koepke’s funeral on Monday at 4:30 p.m., according to the school district.
According to the school district, Koepke just received his PhD.
