Missing Massachusetts man found dead
Authorities in South Carolina reported on Monday that they think they have discovered the corpse of Stanley Kotowski, a missing man from Massachusetts, “beneath a residence” in the Sea Pines neighborhood of Hilton Head, South Carolina.
“Today, August 26, 2024, at approximately 11:30 a.m., the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report regarding suspicious activity at a Sea Pines residence. The corpse of a deceased man was discovered beneath a house during the inquiry, according to a statement released by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook. “The deceased man is thought to have been Stanley Kotowski, a 60-year-old Massachusetts resident. On August 16, 2024, Mr. Kotowski was reported missing. His corpse “was recovered from underneath the home at about 3:30 p.m. this afternoon,” according to the sheriff’s office, and an autopsy will be performed by the county coroner on Tuesday.
The day Kotowski vanished, he left his family’s rental home in Hilton Head, South Carolina, according to doorbell video that was made public over the weekend. On August 16, the day his family reported him missing, Kotowski can be seen leaving the South Sea Pines Drive rental barefoot through the front door and into the street in the video made public by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. In the video, Kotowski also seems perplexed as he pauses his stroll in the middle of the road, looks around, and then resumes. He has not been seen since.
The sheriff’s office posted on Facebook alongside the new video, saying, “We continue to ask for the public’s help locating missing and endangered 60-year-old Stanley Kotowski.” “He was last seen wearing a dark in color, possibly gray, Coors Light t-shirt, dark in color shorts, possibly dark blue or black, and no shoes.” Stanley Kotowski, 60, of Methuen, Massachusetts, vanished from South Sea Pines Drive on August 16 at around 10:30 a.m., and the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office was searching for him. Together with the sheriff’s office, the Hilton Head community planned a coordinated search for Kotowski on Monday afternoon.
His family requested that anyone in the Hilton Head area who may have spotted Kotowski get in touch with the police and watch their security camera footage to see if there were any possible sightings of the missing man. His wife Jackie posted on Facebook, saying, “Over the last month, he has been struggling with severe insomnia and has become increasingly anxious.” “During the week of Aug. 19, Stan became paranoid, thinking that people, including authorities, were pursuing him.”
The sheriff’s office, the family continued, had been very helpful and “are doing everything in their power to bring Stan home,” which included searching both on land and in the water. Anybody with information regarding Kotowski is asked by the authorities to get in touch with the non-emergency dispatch line at 843-524-2777.
