On the morning of the Dolphins’ opening game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tyreek Hill was pulled over for speeding, just a block from the stadium. Footage shared on social media showed Hill, 30, lying face down on the ground next to his sports car, handcuffed by police. Drew Rosenhaus, Hill’s agent, was in the same car during the incident and expressed shock and frustration over the situation. “I love Tyreek. I hated to see him in the situation he was in with the police … he got a ticket for a moving violation, but how it escalated to him being handcuffed is mind-boggling,” Rosenhaus told ESPN. He added that Hill was “deeply troubled” and “mentally distraught” by the experience. Daniels, the department’s director, announced an immediate review of the situation and the body camera footage from the officers involved. One officer has already been placed on administrative duties pending the investigation. Hill, when told about the officer’s reassignment, responded, “That should tell you everything you need to know.” After the game, Hill expressed confusion about the entire incident, stating, “I still don’t know why I was detained. I wasn’t disrespectful, didn’t cuss, just did what my mom and uncle always taught me—stay calm and listen.” Hill hinted at possible underlying racial dynamics, acknowledging that his fame may have prevented the situation from escalating further. “I don’t want to bring race into it, but sometimes it gets iffy. What if I wasn’t Tyreek Hill? Lord knows what could have happened.”
