Mom of suspect in Georgia school shooting indicted and is accused of taping a parent to a chair
The mother of a boy from Georgia who is accused of killing four people at his high school has been charged in relation to a domestic dispute that occurred a year ago. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Marcee Gray, 43, is accused of offenses in Ben Hill County, including taking advantage of an old person, in the indictment that was handed out on Monday. It doesn’t seem to be connected to the Apalachee High School shootings, which took place in a different Georgia county around 200 miles (320 kilometers) away.
Colt Gray, 14, was charged with murder after turning himself in to police on September 4 at the high school. Gray is Colt Gray’s mother. Two students and two teachers were killed when the youngster, according to the authorities, opened fire during morning lessons while carrying an assault-style gun in his backpack.
According to the Atlanta daily, Marcee Gray is accused of crimes after a domestic altercation that happened towards the end of last year. According to a police incident record, on November 4, Gray’s mother, 74, reported to the authorities that her son had taken her phone, taped her to a chair, and abandoned her for almost an entire day. Gray reportedly shackled her mother before going to Barrow County to face her ex-husband, who resided there with their son and two other kids, according to the incident report. According to records obtained by the Atlanta newspaper, Gray was arrested in Barrow County on November 6, two days after her mother was discovered. She was given a 45-day jail sentence after entering a guilty plea to charges of criminal trespassing, using a license plate to conceal her car, and causing property damage.
Notifications left on Saturday at potential phone numbers for Gray were not promptly answered. If she had legal representation, it was not immediately clear. Colt Gray wrote her an apology text, and Gray claimed to have phoned her son’s high school the morning of the shootings to alert the staff. She declared in a statement a few days later that her son “is not a monster.” In addition, Colin Gray, the teen’s father, is accused of two counts of second-degree murder, eight counts of child abuse, and involuntary manslaughter. According to the authorities, he let his kid use the firearm that was used in the massacres.
