Miami woman arrested after allegedly putting GPS tracker on car of man’s mistress

A Miami woman was arrested after allegedly placing a GPS tracker on the car of her friend’s husband’s mistress, according to police. Lourdes Garcia-Mesquida, 53, was taken into custody on Tuesday, facing an aggravated stalking charge, as per Miami-Dade jail records.

The arrest report states that Garcia-Mesquida was first seen behaving suspiciously near the victim’s vehicle on September 14. The following day, the victim discovered a Spytec GPS tracker attached to the underside of her car. On September 18, Garcia-Mesquida was again spotted near the vehicle, placing an unknown object underneath it.

A bystander confronted her at the scene, to which Garcia-Mesquida responded that she was “confused” and had been sent by a friend who had been cheated on. Following the confrontation, she retrieved a tracking device from under the car. Both incidents were captured on surveillance footage, and the victim showed the video to her boyfriend, who is married. He identified Garcia-Mesquida as a friend of his wife.

Garcia-Mesquida was arrested and later appeared in court, where prosecutors noted the correct charge should be unlawfully installing a tracking device, a third-degree felony. Her attorney argued for her release, citing her lack of a criminal record and low risk to the community. The judge granted her pretrial release with a $2,500 bond.

Under a new Florida law, placing a tracking device on someone’s property without their consent is a third-degree felony. The victim later told Telemundo 51 that she is no longer involved in a romantic relationship with the man.
