Operation Blessing in Florida, helping Hurricane Milton victims

14

Operation Blessing has individuals on the ground in North Carolina and Georgia, both of which were devastated by Hurricane Helene, and the team is now in Florida, where Hurricane Milton wreaked havoc. “We can see a lot of branches and debris from trees blown into the streets and sidewalks,” said Alan Motes, a deployment technician with Operation Blessing. “There are a lot of branches in these places. We notice a lot of flooding around the highways. There’s still a lot of standing water on the sides of the roadways, as well as a couple roads that we’ve come across.”

Before the crew sets up shop to help individuals in need, they are “assessing what has been going in the Florida area, specifically the swath of the path of Hurricane Milton,” Motes said. “We’ve gone from east to west. Operation Blessing is glad to help since they perceive a tremendous need. “I believe in this area, especially Sarasota, that we’ve been looking at mostly for today, there is a great need,” Motes told the crowd. “We’re still attempting to get into the Bradenton area, which will probably be tomorrow. And so I’ve heard that some areas of West Bradenton are in desperate need of assistance, as well as devastation.”

Once they’ve found the correct location, they’ll provide resources to help folks get back on their feet. “We’re going to be setting up and we will bring some equipment in and we’ll bring relief on a bigger scale than what’s behind me — meal kits, coconut water, that kind of thing,” Motes told CNN. “And then we’ll hopefully be able to set up a feeding operation as well.”
