Hank Muntzer of Dillon is sentenced to 2 years of prison for his actions during Jan. 6, 2021 riots in U.S. Capitol on Thursday. He was found guilty on charges of entering and staying for a long time in a restricted building in the Capitol.

Muntzer travelled from Montana to Washington D.C. to attend the rally of former President Trump  where he walked along the crowd to the capitol building after the speech. He entered the Capitol building through the Upper West Terrace Door at approximately 2:44 p.m. A video evidence submitted  to the court reveals that he was walking through the building. He confronted officers in Rotunda along with other rioters.

The Capitol Police made efforts to clear the Rotunda of rioters. Muntzer was seen with the crowd in the video. He exited the Capitol building at around 3:22p.m., spending more than half a hour in the building. He was arrested two weeks after the riot based on social media posts and videos taken inside the Capitol.

He was found guilty for obstructing an official proceeding in February where he followed bench trial before U.S. District court Judge Jia M. Cobb. He was involved in physical confrontation with the law enforcement officers near the Senate Chamber and in the Capitol Rotunda.

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Jia M. Cobb sentenced Muntzer to 24 months in prison, 12 months of supervised release and ordered him to pay $2,000 in restitution.

More than 1500 people have been charged with Capitol riot charges. Over 1000 rioters have been convicted and sentenced. Approximately 650 among them received prison time ranging from a few days to 22 years.
