Former NFL Quarterback Jay Cutler Arrested for DUI and Firearm Possession Following Tennessee Car Accident
Former National Football League (NFL) quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested in Franklin, Tennessee, on Thursday after police say he rear-ended another vehicle and was found to be driving under the influence. Cutler, 40, faces multiple charges, including DUI-first offense and possession of a firearm.
According to a statement from the Franklin Police Department, officers responded to the accident and immediately detected the smell of alcohol on Cutler, who also exhibited signs of intoxication such as bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Despite being asked to perform a field sobriety test, Cutler refused, prompting authorities to take him to a hospital where a blood sample was obtained after a search warrant was issued.
The police report revealed that Cutler attempted to flee the scene by offering the other driver $2,000 to avoid involving law enforcement. Further investigation led to the discovery of two firearms in Cutler’s vehicle, including a loaded pistol.
Cutler now faces multiple charges, including failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision, DUI-first offense, possession of a handgun while under the influence, and an implied consent violation. He was taken into custody and the case remains under investigation.
Cutler, who retired from the NFL in 2017 after a career with the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins, has not yet commented on the incident.
