Prisoner Complaining of Pain Escapes into Maserati Waiting Outside ER in Miami: Police
A Miami prisoner, 36-year-old Theodrick Collins, managed a daring escape on Saturday after faking chest pain while being taken to a hospital.
Prisoner Complains of Chest Pain and Escapes
According to the Miami-Dade Police Department, Collins was originally arrested at PortMiami by a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent due to multiple out-of-state warrants. While under police custody, Collins began complaining of chest pain and was promptly taken to the emergency room at Jackson Memorial Hospital around 2:25 p.m. Once there, medical personnel evaluated him and determined that he was medically cleared to leave. As an officer was escorting Collins out of the hospital, the handcuffed prisoner made his escape by getting into a silver Maserati that was waiting outside the hospital.
The Maserati Getaway
The getaway car was a silver Maserati with an Alabama license plate reading “GBT862.” Investigators believe the car had been strategically parked outside the hospital, awaiting Collins’ exit. Despite being handcuffed, Collins managed to get inside the vehicle and flee the scene. The escape took authorities by surprise, and a manhunt was quickly launched. Approximately an hour and a half after Collins’ escape, the Maserati was detected in Jupiter by a License Plate Reader, but there was no immediate sign of Collins. Police describe Collins as approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build. He holds an Alabama driver’s license, though it is unclear why he was in Miami at the time of his arrest.
Multi-Agency Search Underway
The Miami-Dade Police Department, along with other law enforcement agencies, has launched a full-scale manhunt to track down Collins. Authorities are urging the public to be on the lookout for the silver Maserati with the Alabama license plate and to report any sightings immediately.
The incident has raised questions about security protocols when handling prisoners in medical facilities, as Collins’ escape was both swift and well-coordinated. The use of a high-end getaway vehicle like a Maserati has also attracted attention to the case, adding a layer of intrigue to an already daring escape.
Police are continuing their investigation, focusing on how the Maserati came to be parked outside the hospital and whether Collins had any accomplices who assisted him in planning the escape. As of now, the search is ongoing, and Collins remains at large. Law enforcement officials are asking anyone with information on Collins’ whereabouts to come forward.
