As of October 21, 2:15 p.m., two teenagers who were reported missing on October 18 after attending a homecoming dance at San Lorenzo High School in the East Bay have been located, according to Scott Faust, a spokesperson for the San Lorenzo Unified School District, in an email sent Monday afternoon.
Faust wrote, “We are tremendously grateful for this outcome and happy for the families involved and for our entire school district community. We do not have any additional information to share at this time.”
As of the morning of October 21, at 7:54 a.m., officials reported that two teenagers have been missing since Friday night, following their attendance at a homecoming dance in the East Bay suburb of San Lorenzo. The missing teens include 15-year-old Michelle Olivas Sanchez, a sophomore at San Lorenzo High School, who attended the event along with her date, 15-year-old Elvis Merino. Both teens were last seen at the dance, which was held at Michelle’s high school. According to a joint statement from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and the San Lorenzo Unified School District, Elvis had traveled to San Lorenzo from his home in Potter Valley, Mendocino County. His parents made the long drive to bring him to the dance, where he accompanied Michelle for the evening. The authorities have since been actively searching for the pair, as their whereabouts remain unknown.
Scott Faust, a spokesperson for the school district, said the last sighting of teens was by their peers at the dance at 9:05 p.m.
The two teenagers were expected to meet their parents around 9 p.m. after the dance, but they never arrived, according to the school district. Attempts to reach them on their cellphones were unsuccessful. Concerned parents and school staff conducted searches around the school grounds and checked other places they thought the teens might have gone, but they were unable to find them. The sheriff’s office has indicated that they believe the two may be together.
Faust informed on Monday morning that, to his knowledge, there is no evidence suggesting that the teenagers went missing against their will.
Officials are urging the public to be vigilant and report any sightings of the two missing teenagers. Michelle is described as having long, straight black hair, brown eyes, standing 5 feet 1 inch tall, and weighing approximately 108 pounds. According to the sheriff’s office, she was last seen wearing a pink dress, a black jacket, black shoes, and carrying a small pink backpack. Elvis, on the other hand, is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs around 110 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes and was dressed in a black suit with a pink vest and black shoes for the dance.
