A Miami-Dade woman is in critical condition following a violent shooting incident early Sunday morning inside her Kendall residence. Around 3:30 a.m., police officers responded to a distress call from a tenant at a home in the 6200 block of Southwest 109th Avenue, who returned to discover a significant amount of blood on the floor and the woman severely injured with multiple gunshot wounds. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue swiftly transported her to a nearby hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery for injuries to her torso, arms, and legs.
Ex-Husband Confesses to Shooting
Shortly after the shooting, Hialeah Police received a call from Pedro Nunez, the woman’s ex-husband, who admitted to his involvement in the Kendall shooting. According to police reports, Nunez, 47, confessed to shooting his ex-wife several times following an argument. He told officers he ceased firing when she collapsed against a door, breaking it open. When Miami-Dade Police arrived, the victim managed to identify her ex-husband as the shooter, despite drifting in and out of consciousness. She is now undergoing additional surgery to stabilize her condition, according to hospital officials. Police have charged Nunez with attempted felony murder, and he was transferred into the custody of the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Domestic Violence unit, which is now leading the investigation.
Neighbors Describe Disturbing Sounds
The violent incident rattled residents in the typically quiet Kendall neighborhood. Neighbor Maria Perez told NBC6 about hearing terrifying sounds from the home that morning. “I heard a woman screaming,” Perez said. “At first, I thought it was a party, but this was different—she was screaming.” The intense sounds continued, leaving the community unsettled and fearful for the woman’s well-being.
A Child Left in the Wake of Tragedy
The former couple shares a 10-year-old child, though police have not confirmed if the child was present at the time of the shooting. Authorities are working to ensure the child’s safety and provide support following this traumatic event. Community advocates highlight the ongoing impact domestic violence can have on families, urging greater awareness and support systems to help prevent similar tragedies.
As detectives continue to investigate, the focus remains on the recovery of the critically injured victim and the well-being of their young child. Local law enforcement has reiterated its commitment to addressing domestic violence cases with urgency and compassion, aiming to protect families and bring justice to victims.
