Deadly Tuskegee University shooting leads to machine gun possession arrest
An arrest has been made in relation to the early Sunday shooting at Tuskegee University in Alabama that claimed the life of an 18-year-old and injured at least 16 others. Authorities reported that Jaquez Myrick, 25, of Montgomery, was found leaving the site of the incident and was charged with possessing a machine gun. Around 1:40 a.m., as the school’s centennial homecoming celebrations were nearing to an end, a deadly burst of gunfire broke out on the Macon County campus, according to authorities.
The Macon County Coroner’s Office said late Sunday night that La’Tavion Johnson was the teen who was killed in the incident. Twelve individuals were hurt when they were struck by gunfire, according to the police, and four more were hurt during the incident, some of them while escaping from cover. People were seen jumping to the ground or hiding in cars in a number of social media videos that captured what appeared to be many gunshots.
In a statement announcing the arrest on Sunday, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency urged the public to keep providing the FBI with pertinent information, but it did not specify if officials were still looking for more individuals. Initially, there had been a suspicion of many shooters, according to radio reports from police officers dispatched to the school to investigate the incident. “There’s going to be two shooters at this time, maybe more,” one officer said in a radio call, according to transmissions provided by Broadcastify.
