Unbelievably Foolish!’: Democrat Shocked by Trump’s Latest Controversial Pledge Sparks Outrage
A Democratic legislator criticized Donald Trump’s proposal to pardon his supporters who stormed the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021. The president-elect stated that he would “most likely” pardon at least some of the rioters on “Day One” of his second term, while Rep. Dan Kildee (D-MI) told CNN that Trump’s campaign promise was offensively wrong. “It’s just offensive,” Kildee explained. “I mean, I was there; I witnessed it firsthand: people attacked the Capitol, beat police officers, and people died. If they had gotten past those cops, imagine what they would have done to some of us stuck in that gallery on that dreadful day.
“We have no idea what they would have done, and the very notion that those who were Democrats and Republicans who were trying to hold those people accountable would, in Donald Trump’s mind, be those who are culpable, and he would somehow see these attackers, this mob, this chaotic, dangerous mob is somehow being righteous – either he’s intentionally stupid, which I’m not sure how much he understands about how the rule of law ought to function in society, or he just has so
Kildee was undecided on whether President Joe Biden should provide preemptive pardons to members of the Jan. 6 committee that Trump has threatened with prosecution. “I’m not a lawyer, and I don’t agree with the presidential authority to offer pardons, no matter who it is,” Kildee told reporters. “But I believe we are at a critical inflection point.” I’d hate to see folks who are merely trying to perform their jobs to safeguard our country become victims of a totalitarian administration.”
