U.S. Intelligence Issues Urgent Alert: Russian Missile Threat Looms Over Ukraine

WASHINGTON (AP) — A U.S. intelligence assessment has revealed that Russia may soon deploy its new intermediate-range ballistic missile, the Oreshnik, against Ukraine once again, according to two U.S. officials on Wednesday.

First used last month, the Oreshnik missile is regarded by experts as a psychological tool aimed at intimidation rather than a battlefield game-changer in the ongoing conflict, one official noted.

This development comes as both sides continue to seek an edge in the nearly three-year-long war. President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to bring an end to the conflict, while the U.S. recently announced nearly $1 billion in additional security aid for Ukraine. Meanwhile, Western allies have hinted that peace negotiations could commence this winter.
