The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps, assists people in purchasing the healthful food they require to maintain good health. In addition to groceries, SNAP also allows people to buy seeds and garden plants.

The United States Department of Agriculture oversees SNAP, although it works at the state level, allowing Texas Health and Human Services to address citizens’ specific needs. Here are the most essential dates for claiming benefits during the third week of December. Once the Texas SNAP application is approved, funds are placed monthly onto an Electronic funds Transfer (EBT) card, known as the Lone Star Card in Texas, which functions similarly to a debit or credit card.

Money can be used to purchase essential goods such as carbs, fats, proteins, fruits, and vegetables, as long as they are not hot items, but the card cannot be used to purchase tobacco, alcohol, or other services or to settle outstanding bills. Low-income households and unemployed individuals can apply for the plan, albeit there are restrictions for persons aged 18 to 52, such as time limits on SNAP payments and the ability to hunt for work. These do not apply to pregnant or disabled women. A single-person family can claim up to $2,005 per month, while a family of five can claim up to $4,832.

To prevent program abuse, families with more than five members are eligible for an extra $707 per person. A single-person household receives $291, a family of five receives $1,115, and a family of eight receives $1,751. An additional $219 per person is applied for homes with more than eight members.
