Authorities say the driver of a suspected stolen car tried to elude police when he forcefully crashed into the back of a Miami-Dade County bus, injuring multiple people and sending at least two to the hospital. An undercover squad tried to pull over a reported stolen car at approximately 9 p.m. on Monday, Miami Police stated Tuesday morning. The silver Honda SUV’s driver fled in an attempt to avoid police.

A county bus was then rear-ended by the motorist near NW 71st Street and 21st Avenue. The silver Honda and the bus collided violently, and the neighbors described what sounded like an explosion. Michael Parker told 7News that he was on the bus when the tragedy occurred. “We smelled smoke after I was slung to the side,” Parker recalled.

The SUV sounded like it was speeding, he claimed. They seemed to be moving really quickly. They struck us quite forcefully,” he remarked. The SUV was seriously damaged. “I am fortunate to be alive,” Parker stated. He claimed that “we would have all been kind of messed up if I hadn’t been in the bus and if it had been a regular car, at the speed they were going.” At least two passengers were transported to Jackson Ryder Trauma Center after Miami-Dade Fire Rescue evaluated a number of individuals on the site.

Crime scene investigators were observed entering and exiting the SUV and taking photos. According to Miami Police, the vehicle was recovered, and along with it, were four rifles. Police have not released the identities of the driver or those involved.
