Breaking: Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody Issues Arrest Warrant for Ryan Routh in Shocking Attempted Felony Murder Case
Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody revealed Wednesday that the state has obtained an arrest warrant for Ryan Routh, who is already in federal custody on charges related to attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump. The warrant accuses Routh of attempted felony murder, a development in the ongoing investigation into the September assassination attempt, which marked the second such attempt on Trumpโs life in just three months.
This arrest warrant is part of an ongoing dispute between Florida Republican leaders and the Biden administration concerning the stateโs role in investigating the assassination attempt. While Routh faces five federal charges, including attempting to assassinate a presidential candidate, Florida officials have expressed frustration over what they describe as the federal governmentโs obstruction of their own investigation. They claim the federal authorities have โstonewalledโ Floridaโs ability to conduct its inquiry or collaborate with the federal investigation.
Governor Ron DeSantis voiced his support for the stateโs continued efforts, praising Attorney General Moodyโs perseverance. โThe feds have stonewalled Floridaโs investigation of the Trump assassination attempt at every turn, and I appreciate AG Moody and her team for plowing forward despite some resistance,โ DeSantis wrote on X following Moodyโs announcement of the arrest warrant during a morning press conference.
Trump himself has criticized the Justice Departmentโs handling of the assassination attempt. However, the Justice Department did not provide a comment in response to inquiries regarding the situation.
Moody clarified that the arrest warrant, alleging attempted felony murder, is not directly related to the Trump assassination attempt itself. Instead, the charge stems from a vehicle crash that occurred as a result of a police operation attempting to apprehend Routh. Authorities had shut down traffic on a highway during their pursuit, causing significant backup. According to Moodyโs office, the resulting congestion led to a car accident a few miles from where Routh was eventually captured, leaving a 6-year-old girl injured.
Moody emphasized that the crash was a critical factor in Floridaโs decision to pursue its own charges against Routh. The state is pushing forward with its investigation despite the challenges posed by federal resistance, demonstrating its determination to hold Routh accountable for all the consequences of his actions. Routhโs federal trial is scheduled for February, with significant attention surrounding the case as it unfolds.
