Live Update: Freezing Snow and Ice Coming on Thursday in North Texas
Our first winter storm watch of the season is in place from Wednesday night until Friday afternoon. According to current understanding, the most significant possibility of snow accumulation will be along our Red River counties and into northern Wise, Denton, Collin, and Hunt counties. It will begin with modest quantities in the early morning on Thursday. It should develop in strength around mid-morning, with 1-2 inches of this mix probable. Roads will be damp, and there may be some freezing on bridges and overpasses in the morning and evening. Travel disruptions are anticipated. The metroplex will likely get chilly rain, sleet, and snow.
DFW Snow Forecast:
Some prediction models continue to predict significant snowfall in regions of North Texas. Most of the snow will begin to adhere to highways, overpasses, and wet surfaces on Thursday evening. The issue is, how long will it snow into the night? The GFS model below predicts nearly 2 inches of snow for DFW. Not everything will stick. The metroplex will remain in the “transition zone” most of the day on Thursday. Snow will fall to the north of that zone, followed by cold rain and sleet to the south. We emphasize that this is merely the current prediction. It is subject to change. CBS News Texas First Alert Meteorologists will update you as the forecast progresses.ย
In all this concern about winter weather, let us not forget the ongoing issue of chilly mornings. Continue to bundle everyone as you send them out the door. We are closely monitoring nighttime lows during this event. We are now anticipating temps of about freezing on Friday morning. Please drive carefully on Friday morning. Any wetness on the roadways is likely to cause ice to form. The worst travel conditions will probably happen that morning. Roads will begin to clear on Friday afternoon. Some ice patches will be on Saturday morning before the streets are cleared. Saturday afternoon
