Minneapolis, Minnesota, Minnesotans wake up to severely frigid temperatures as Arctic air blankets the state for the weekend. Today’s highs will struggle to reach 9°F, with wind chills as low as -13°. Residents should wrap warmly while going outside and limit skin exposure to avoid frostbite hazards.

The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies today and Sunday, with daytime highs of 9°F and 11°F, respectively. Overnight lows will stay below zero, dropping to -2°F Saturday night and -1°F Sunday night. Winds from the northwest at 5-10 mph will add to the chill. Monday brings a small warmup, with highs about 15°F and partly sunny skies. However, nighttime temperatures will remain around 6°F.

By Tuesday and Wednesday, partly sunny skies will remain, with daytime highs rising slightly to 14°F and 11°F, respectively. A more visible warm-up is predicted on Thursday, with highs approaching 18°F, providing some reprieve from the severe chill.

Drivers on I-94 and other major Twin Cities thoroughfares should exercise caution in the mornings, as frost and ice may accumulate as a result of subzero overnight temperatures. Pedestrians should also use caution since sidewalks in shaded places may stay slick. This weekend’s forecast calls for bright but cold conditions, making it perfect for outdoor enthusiasts equipped with suitable cold-weather clothing. Those considering winter activities should dress in layers and keep hydrated.
