Two Arrested for Alleged Package Theft in South Miami
South Miami police have arrested two individuals accused of stealing packages from a local residence. Thirty-one-year-old Massip and Leydis Vega, also 31, are now facing multiple charges in connection with the theft.
Massip has been charged with dealing in stolen property, while Vega is facing charges that include burglary of an occupied dwelling. The crime was caught on Ring surveillance video, which captured Vega running up to the victimโs porch and stealing a package in less than five seconds.
Police were tipped off to Vegaโs involvement, leading detectives to scrutinize the video footage further. Investigators were able to identify Vega as the suspect by matching the distinctive hair bows she wore during the theft to those featured in her social media posts.
The arrests highlight the effectiveness of community vigilance and technology, as surveillance footage and social media played crucial roles in identifying the suspects. Both Massip and Vega remain in custody as the investigation continues.
