Sub-Freezing Temperatures Threaten Pinal County
With temperatures predicted to drop into the upper 20s beginning Thursday morning, a substantial freeze warning has been issued for a large portion of Arizona, including Pinal County, Globe, and the surrounding areas.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix issued the warning, highlighting the danger of harming plants, pets left outside, and the homeless community.
The NWS predicts that nightly lows will be between 29ยฐF and 32ยฐF, meaning the freeze warning will last until Friday morning. Phoenix’s daytime highs will barely reach 66ยฐF, but Globe and Wickenburg are expected to have lower temperatures, with Thursday nighttime lows of 29ยฐF.
Immediate Response
Immediate action should be taken by residents to shield pets and delicate plants from the cold. Make sure outdoor animals have warm shelter and cover plants with frost blankets.
Additionally, local authorities advise citizens to take the appropriate precautions when going on these chilly mornings and to check in on their neighbors who may be at risk.
Over the weekend, high temperatures are predicted to be below the seasonal average of 67ยฐF, continuing the decreasing trend. Lows will continue to be in the 30s by Saturday, and frost is still a risk in outlying regions.
Early morning commuters are advised to exercise caution as icy conditions may form on I-10 and adjacent roadways. Keep yourself updated by keeping an eye on local forecasts and getting ready for extended cold weather.
