Lake Charles Weather Update as Cold Front and Heavy Rain Pose Safety Risks This Week

0

As a cold front continues to engulf the region, residents in Louisiana must contend with a deadly combination of frigid wind chills and torrential rain. With temperatures predicted to continue below freezing in some places and wind chills as low as 20 degrees, a Cold Weather Advisory is still in effect through 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service warns that if skin is left out in the cold, there is a significant risk of hypothermia and frostbite.

Driving conditions may be affected by freezing winds and decreased visibility, therefore drivers should use caution when traveling along I-10 close to Acadiana and other coastal locations.

Flash Flooding

There is a higher chance of flash flooding on Thursday afternoon due to the return of precipitation.

Heavy rain is expected Thursday night, according to local forecasters, with a marginal risk of excessive rainfall in the vicinity of Lake Charles, Alexandria, and Woodville. Locals should be ready for quick water buildup, particularly in low-lying regions.

By the weekend, daytime highs will gradually increase, with Saturday’s highs approaching 50 degrees.

However, localized floods and dangerous driving conditions could result from the rain on Thursday and Friday. It will be uncomfortable to undertake outside activities when winds reach 25 mph.

Local authorities advise citizens to restrict their time outside, dress warmly in layers, and visit neighbors who might be in need of help. It is recommended that drivers stay away from flooded roads and keep an eye on weather updates.
