Shocking Scandal: Louisiana Mayor Tyrin Truong Arrested in Major Drug Trafficking Bust
On January 7, 2025, Tyrin Truong, the 25-year-old mayor of Bogalusa, Louisiana, was arrested as part of a comprehensive drug trafficking investigation that shocked the local community and raised serious questions about public trust in elected officials.
During a drug trafficking bust in Bogalusa, Louisiana, the cityโs mayor, Tyrin Truong, and others have been arrested, the police reported on Tuesday.
The Louisiana State Police Narcotics /Violent Crime Task Force initiated the conduction of an โinvestigation of a drug trafficking organizationโ in the area in April 2024. NEW ORLEANS โ State health officials report that there were 2,456 drug-involved deaths in Louisiana in 2023.
The joint task force operation determined the organization was selling a range of substances ranging from opioids, high-grade marijuana, THC products and MDMA. Officials said the operation was using social media to deliver the drugs and handle the money transactions.
New Yorkโs senior US attorney, Preet Bharara, said that the drug money was used to buy guns, some of which were sold to people who should not have access to firearms. A number of firearms have been associated with violent offences in the region, according to the police.ย
Consequently, seven arrest warrants were affected; among them is 25-year-old Truong. Truong, who later became the youngest mayor after he stunned incumbent Wendy Perrette in the 2022 mayorโs election, is facing counts of dealing in proceeds from drug offences, theft of moveables, and soliciting for the purpose of prostitution.
The other six people all have charges of transactions that include the proceeds from drug offences. Three of them have charges of conspiracy to distribute a Schedule I controlled substance. Another faces another count of trafficking in a Schedule II prohibited substance.
Police stated that all seven would be charged and taken to the Washington Parish Jail. Seattle records show that Truong was taken to the jail Tuesday afternoon.
Additional details about the case will be provided by the Louisiana State Police, the agency stated, adding that โa number of other subjects and entities remain under investigation in connection with other matters both unrelated to and related to the offences committed today by the arrested individuals.โ
