Trump’s Return Sees Unprecedented Drop in Illegal Border Entries

Border Agents Report Remarkably Low Illegal Crossings in First Week of Trump’s Second Term.

Fewer than 600 individuals crossed the U.S.-Mexico border illegally on Sunday, marking a dramatic decrease since President Donald Trump assumed office for his second term. According to sources cited by Fox News, none of the nine border sectors recorded more than 200 illegal crossings on January 26, bringing the total number of encounters for the day to just 582.

This sharp decline is particularly evident in the Del Rio sector, a region that once saw over 4,000 crossings per day during the height of the border crisis in December 2023. On Sunday, that same sector documented only 60 illegal crossings—a staggering reduction.

For comparison, in the final days of the Biden administration, daily border encounters ranged between 1,200 and 1,400. However, since Trump’s inauguration on January 20, those numbers have steadily dropped. A Fox News Digital exclusive report from last week highlighted the sharp downward trend, further underscoring the significant changes occurring under the new administration.

In the first three days of President Donald Trump’s second term, a total of 2,523 border encounters were reported, reflecting a notable downward trend. Between January 20 and January 22, daily figures showed a consistent decline, with 1,073 encounters logged on Trump’s inauguration day, followed by 736 the next day, and 714 on the third day. These numbers demonstrate a sharp contrast to the higher daily averages recorded during the previous administration and signal a significant shift in border activity under the new leadership.

In contrast, the final days of the Biden administration saw a significantly higher number of border encounters. A total of 3,908 encounters were recorded nationwide in the last three days of Biden’s presidency. According to sources from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the daily tallies included 1,288 encounters on January 17, 1,266 on January 18, and 1,354 on January 19. These figures underscore the stark difference in border activity between the end of Biden’s term and the early days of Trump’s second presidency.

The latest border statistics were released on Monday, coinciding with a tense incident near Fronton, Texas, where U.S. Border Patrol agents exchanged gunfire with suspected cartel members. Fortunately, no injuries were reported on either side during the confrontation.

The news comes as President Donald Trump’s administration moves swiftly to address border security concerns. During his inauguration on January 20, Trump pledged to take decisive action by immediately declaring a national emergency at the southern border, signaling his administration’s commitment to tackling illegal crossings and related criminal activities head-on.

President Donald Trump firmly declared during his inaugural address that his administration would take swift and decisive action to end illegal immigration. “All illegal entry will immediately be halted,” he stated, emphasizing his commitment to restoring control at the border. He also announced plans to begin the process of deporting “millions and millions of criminal aliens” to their countries of origin. Additionally, Trump pledged to deploy troops to the southern border as a defensive measure against what he described as a “disastrous invasion” threatening the nation’s security and sovereignty.
