Missing 15-Year-Old Anthony Smith Found Shot to Death in Charlotte; Police Investigating Homicide

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A tragic discovery was made in south Charlotte on Tuesday, Sept. 10, when police found the body of a missing 15-year-old boy, Anthony Smith, who had been shot to death. Anthony had been reported missing by his family six days earlier on Wednesday, Sept. 4, sparking a wide-scale search by authorities and the community.

After days of what police described as an “exhaustive search,” officers located human remains near Silverleaf Road, close to Old Pineville Road. On Wednesday, Sept. 11, the remains were positively identified as those of Anthony Smith. The North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed that he had died from a gunshot wound. His death is now being treated as a homicide.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is actively investigating the case but has not yet made any arrests. Authorities are urging anyone who may have information about Anthony’s death or who may have seen anything suspicious around the area to come forward. The police department is asking the public to contact them with any tips, no matter how minor, as they work to bring justice to Anthony’s family.
