Authorities stated that the men had attempted an armed robbery just moments before engaging in the shootout with Fort Lauderdale Police Department (FLPD) officers. The violent incident took place around 2:15 p.m. in the 1000 block of Northwest 3rd Avenue, after police tried to stop a suspicious vehicle. What began as a routine traffic stop quickly escalated into a dangerous confrontation.

Shootout and Pursuit

When officers initiated the traffic stop, multiple suspects exited the vehicle and opened fire on the officers. Fortunately, none of the officers were hit by the gunfire, and in a controlled response, they did not return fire. After the gunshots, the suspects attempted to flee the scene in their vehicle, sparking a brief pursuit through the city. The chase ended in the 1600 block of Sunrise Boulevard, where the suspects were apprehended without further incident. During this pursuit, a crash occurred involving a police car and a civilian vehicle at the intersection of Northwest 6th Street and Northwest 9th Avenue. Two officers were injured in the crash and were transported to Broward Health Medical Center as a precaution. Officials confirmed that both officers were expected to recover.

Ongoing Investigation

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is continuing its investigation into the incident, examining all the circumstances surrounding the armed robbery and subsequent shooting. The quick action of the officers prevented any loss of life during the chaotic exchange, and the suspects are now facing a wide range of charges for their involvement.
