Cam Ward Breaks Miami’s Single-Season Touchdown Record

Ward’s first scoring pass of the day — a 74-yard touchdown to Elijah Arroyo in the first quarter — marked his 30th touchdown pass of the season. By the game’s end, Ward tallied three more, bringing his season total to 32. Despite his milestone, the day ended in disappointment as Miami fell to Georgia Tech 28-23, suffering their first loss of the season and breaking their unbeaten streak. Ward’s achievement has added to his already impressive resume. He became the first FBS quarterback to reach the 30-touchdown mark this season, surpassing Miami’s previous record held by Steve Walsh, who had 29 touchdown passes for the Hurricanes in 1988.

Climbing the NCAA All-Time Passing List

Ward’s performance also cemented his place among the NCAA’s all-time passing leaders. Entering Saturday with 17,022 career passing yards, Ward’s 74-yard touchdown moved him past Tyson Bagent and Timmy Chang, placing him third on the NCAA all-division career list with a total of 17,370 yards. Only two players now stand ahead of him: Dillon Gabriel (17,530 yards) and Case Keenum (19,217 yards). Ward’s remarkable career journey includes stints at Incarnate Word and Washington State before joining Miami, highlighting his consistent production across different teams and seasons.

On Pace to Break Additional Miami Records

With 3,494 passing yards so far this season, Ward is quickly approaching the Miami single-season yardage record set by Bernie Kosar in 1984 (3,642 yards). Brad Kaaya holds second place with 3,532 yards, achieved in 2016. Ward’s yardage total is now the third-highest by any Miami player in a single season, placing him within striking distance of setting another school record before the season’s end. Additionally, Ward’s 241 completions rank fifth on Miami’s single-season list, only 21 shy of Kosar’s record of 262.

Though the game’s outcome wasn’t what the Hurricanes had hoped, Ward’s record-breaking performance places him among Miami’s most accomplished quarterbacks. With several games left in the season, he has ample opportunity to further solidify his place in Miami’s history books and add to his impressive statistical achievements.
