Texas border officers seized a substantial $10.2 million narcotics haul hidden among rose cargo in a refrigerated tractor-trailer at the southern border, confirmed by officials recently.

The discovery unfolded on December 21 at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo when a 2001 Freightliner truck, purportedly carrying a commercial shipment of cut flowers, underwent a routine stop.

Following a standard procedure, the truck was then directed for a secondary inspection by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), according to a release issued by CBP on December 26.

CBP officers, along with a canine unit, embarked on a non-invasive examination of the refrigerated trailer, leading to the revelation of numerous bundles of narcotics strategically concealed among the flowers, officials stated.

The concealed illegal substances discovered among the shipment consisted of a significant quantity of purported methamphetamine, available in both powder and crystal varieties, amassing a total weight of 1,018.81 pounds.

Furthermore, within the hidden compartments, officials confirmed the presence of an additional 165.34 pounds of purported cocaine, according to the affirmation provided by CBP.

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents in Texas began looking into the confiscated drugs, but they did not immediately reveal any information regarding the driver who was engaged in the delivery.

Expressing pride in the vigilant efforts of frontline officers, Alberto Flores, the Port Director at Laredo Port of Entry, highlighted the significance of such seizures in fortifying border safety.

“CBP is proud of the work our frontline officers do to ensure the safety and well-being of our communities,” Flores emphasized. “This significant seizure is an example of ongoing operational efforts conducted daily to protect our borders.”

In the first two months of Fiscal Year 2024, CBP recorded a significant drug interception nationally. The joint seizure of 7,200 pounds of cocaine and 29,065 pounds of methamphetamine by agents and Texas officers highlights the ongoing difficulties caused by narcotics smuggling over the nation’s borders.
