It would certainly be unexpected if the Jets decided to keep Wilson on the team, especially considering the owner’s harsh remarks about his performance.

During the NFL Honors, Johnson expressed the need for a backup quarterback. Last year, we were without one.”

During a press availability at the annual meetings, coach Robert Saleh chose not to provide any comments regarding Wilson’s potential departure on Monday.

Saleh indicated that he would rely on their general manager, Joe Douglas, who might also choose to shift responsibility to Johnson.

It seems that Wilson’s future with the company may be uncertain, depending on Johnson’s decision.

The billionaire owner, at the age of 76, has recognized the benefits of Wilson finding a new beginning elsewhere.

“It would be advantageous for him to adopt a new identity and relocate to start afresh,” Johnson commented. “I believe that would likely be more advantageous for him.”

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – FEBRUARY 5: A detail view of NFL Network microphone is seen with the NFL Crest logo is seen during Super Bowl LVIII Opening Night at Allegiant Stadium ahead of Super Bowl LVIII on February 5, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Last week, NFL Vice President of Football Operations Troy Vincent emphasized the importance of prohibiting this particular play during an interview.

“The most valuable quality for any athlete is their ability to stay strong and consistently show up.” “When you have a play that has a 20-25 times higher injury rate, it prevents you from achieving your dreams,” Vincent assured.

However, the NFLPA firmly stated that the players are against any effort by the NFL to enforce a rule that would ban a ‘swivel hip-drop’ tackle.

The organization restated its dedication to the well-being of its members and the progress of the game, but expressed its lack of support for this new rule.

“We are unable to endorse a rule change that leads to confusion among players, coaches, officials, and most importantly, fans.” The union issued a statement urging the NFL to reconsider implementing this rule once more.

In this regard, Rich McKay, president of the Competition Committee, responded: “Is there an issue we need to address?” Affirmative, the answer was yes.

This will be a challenging decision to make during the game. It is essential to thoroughly examine every aspect of it. We believe it would be beneficial to establish a rule regarding discipline throughout the week.

NFL Alters Challenge Rule for Teams’ Advantage

The Competition Committee has also given the green light to a modification of the rule regarding challenges to referee decisions.

In previous seasons, a team needed to successfully complete both of their allotted challenges in order to earn a third opportunity

With the recent rule change, the team now has the opportunity to secure victory by winning just one of its two regulatory challenges.

The Committee has not yet voted on the potential kickoff rule change, and it remains uncertain whether they will address it during this meeting.

However, there is a chance that the change could be brought up for a vote on Tuesday.
